We have now New Education Policy. Of course, with changing time any policy must change to cope with new demands. But at the same time the thought behind the policy must also understand the demands of changing time. Any change just for the sake of change is not enough unless there is comprehensive and inclusive understanding of the change. Our education policy has been being related to employment generation. Education has been being seen as a source of livelihood. There is no doubt that in modern times better education is a major factor for determining earning capacity. It's considered as a major vehicle for social mobility and social change as it opens the door of opportunities for better earning and consequently better position in society.
Although there can not be any doubt about the above role of education, it must be assigned the role of personality building as well. Today considering the vast population it's imperative to formulate such policies which provide ample scope for synthesising resilience among youth. This resilience comes from the understanding of the role of individual in society. This resilience helps in shaping the youth personalty in such a way so that they can face the hazards of modern life successfully. We can't afford to leave the task for individual effort. If this is not made an essential part of the policy and the system we will continue to produce such adults who may have standard knowledge with little wisdom.
This can be done by proper integration of traditional knowledge with modern understanding. If you closely follow the syllabus of any modern scientific study system you will find the same old value system for personality development has been adopted with certain amendments as the demands of modern time. The greater emphasis on scientific temperament enables better interpretation of the value system. Personality stabilization should be major task of an education policy. Any knowledge devoid of a strong value system can't help in stabilizing the youth personality. And an unstabelized personality is feared to produce catastrophic effects on the life of youth. This is particularly true in a growing economy which demands more and more earning capacity. An economic revolution needs such youths who can face upheavals of uncertainty of economy . We must understand it's ultimately a person for which any system runs and at the same time only persons can run a system . This is a two way process. Persons run the system and in turn the system runs the persons. When there is a fine balance between the two we get a stable system. If the first happens autocracy rules. And when the second dominates persons lose their significance. This can't be balanced alone by political and economic systems. For a proper balance besides these two systems we also need a personality system. Countrymen must be trained to be dedicated lot with penchant for scientific temperament, progress, honesty, humanity, progress and growth and like positive mindset. If this is done by political system there is a risk for germination of dictatorial military like society , but if it's done by independent education system it helps the youth the test their own capacities.
So we need an education system, free from the ideology of the ruling class with major thrust in free growth of resiliency.
