COVID IS HARMING TRUST AND TRUTH
First we take up trust. In social relations , even in blood relations the most important aspect is trust. We have an insurance in form of trust that whenever some hard times come we will get the best possible support from our social relations. Similarly in case of other formal functional organizations and institutions there is element of trust which enables both the organizations and institutions on one hand and people on other hand to rely and function for each other. People pay taxes , families send their members to these organizations and institutions to become their members. All these are done due to prevalent trust and trust in the social contract. In leu of investing trust in the formal and informal organizations and institutions people want only one thing, that is such organizations and institutions stand by them in hours of need. It's also very important to note that all farak and informal organizations and institutions are able to survive only due to this investment of trust in themselves by the members of the society. Even formal authorities which draw their legitimacy from the formal rules and regulations survive till only people have trust in them.
But the damage done in the period of this COVID 19 pandemic in our county in both the first and second waves has shaken this element of trust to such an extent that people have started thinking that such organizations, institutions and social relations are useless. Here we first take formal organizations and institutions. People pay taxes with the hope and with the faith in the authorities that a system will be created with their tax money to provide them a system which can serve them. Secondly citizens turn for voting in elections to elect their representatives and their government. They deposit their power to rule with the government through their representatives and invest their trust in them that the institution of government, which consists of their elected representatives shall discharge the function of rule according to the popular will of the citizens in the favour of their well being. But during Covid 19 pandemic, first the mass exodus of labourers from cities to villages without any sort of assistance from their government, second the poorv facilities and meager availability of health services , third, the mind blowing death rate and fourth the hapless situation in which even last rites are not being done show the brutal betrayal to this trust invested by the people in the formal organizations . Without going into the details of the incidents occurring all around of all of us we know people are not getting medical facilities and they are dying less of the Covid 19 and more of want of medical facilities. And then this mindless vaccine policy which has not only created chaos and confusion but has also introduced the system of stratification, and division among the eligible people and the net result is that no one is getting vaccine easily and in near future those who have money can get shots of vaccine by paying for it and those who can't afford will have to wait in que. This vaccine apartheid is also betraying trust.
All these things which are weakening trust in the formal system are weakening the system itself . If we do not trust formal organizations and institutions their legitimacy will be in danger. To compensate this loss of formal system two parellal systems will grow in future, one is of private sector which will tend to replace the utility and legitimacy of governance by the elected government and second is illegal system that will function on the principle of mafiagiri. Thus erosion of trust in the formal system may result into erosion of power, authority and relevance of the system and their soverein masters.
The second prey of fall of trust is erosion of social relations. During pandemic many health staffs and those engaged in providing various logistics have been exploiting the victims of disease beyond imagination. Ambulance kendra & drivers, medicine sellers, oxygen suppliers, cremetoria staff all have looted the patients and their families. Similar is the case with neighbours, covillagers relatives etc. They have treated the patients and their families as untouchables. This is weakening the social bondage and social commitment as well. This decline will adversly effect the social peace and equalibirium and the natural support system will gradually de create in society. This trend will effect social cohesion and fragmentation will begin.
This we see by doing harm to the system of Trust we are damaging our own social and formal existence . And in this situation no one is going to win.
