PROJECT OF FUTURE OF HUMAN RACE
Will science help in mitigating inequalities or will it perpetuate inequalities? This is a big question which answer will decide the course of human history and evolution in future. If present is anything to give some indication science in the given social structure is perpetuating inequalities among human beings. This is because of the hard reality of economics . Caste, race, colour like ethnic identities besides classes are adapting to new economic order to secure their existence in some or other forms and hence impacts of science in terms of equitable development fail to penetrate this. When we visit a rural setting of some downtrodden caste like Musahars in modern India we may wonder these are the members of the same human community which some members are living so lavish and advanced life. On the one hand blacks, most backward caste sections, economically deprived class sections , and people of most backward regions of the world are fighting among themselves for smallest shares for their bare survival and on the other hand a handful of world population which primarily belongs to traditionally privileged sections and countries are enjoying the advancement of science. Under such a situation this question is very natural that whether science will decide the course of future or its socio- economic structure existing at present will dictate the terms for getting benefits of scientific advancement. If this happens science will only contribute, though inadvertently to the perpetuation of inequality in favour of existing privileged sections of people of the world.
If we want to change this course the human race will have to work on the world order of social structure and economic framework. For this the present system of free market capitalism will have to be re examined and restructured. In place of free market, collectivism should be considered and freedom of individual has to be reoriented towards freedom of group. Public good should be made basic consciousness in place of self defeating isolated freedom of individuals. This principle has to be extended from economy and society to polity and ethics. Productivity has to be evaluated not only in terms of surplus belonging to some individuals but in terms of satiation of all members of the community upto a dignified standard of living. Even today world's cumulative productivity is enough to give dignified life to all human inhabitants of this planet but existing social, political, economic and ethical structures don't allow this to happen. No amount of force or motivation can ensure this. Only deliberate and engineered changes in socio-political-economic structures supported by conducive ethical principles can do so. Hence if we wish science to be available to all we will have to redifine the project of future of human race. Then only we will be able to make this place #a better place.
